Senior Commissioning Editor

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Senior Commissioning Editor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for commissioning, editing, and publishing books with the aim of building a prestigious literary list that reflects topical and contemporary trends. Your key responsibilities will include taking complete ownership of each allocated book, and ensuring that they are edited, designed, produced, distributed, and marketed to their maximum potential. You will work closely with our copy, design, production, distribution, and sales teams, as well as build strong working relationships with potential authors by attending festivals, seminars, and other relevant forums. 

Managing author relationships and expectations will be a key part of this role, as will schedule management for allocated books to ensure that handovers are completed according to agreed timelines. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating blurbs, trade letters and catalogue matter, as well as adding metadata to the platform. 

To be successful in this role, you should have a good understanding of publishing with a strong sense of the adult market. You should also have the ability to work with a variety of authors and agents, and demonstrate excellent command over the English language. A passion for reading and creating stories to entertain people is a must, as is being well-read and having a keen understanding of trends and the nuances of book writing. You should be committed and passionate about growing our portfolio and have a motivated and driven attitude. Creative thinking, a collaborative attitude, excellent communication and influencing skills, multitasking and the ability to work through tight deadlines to ensure end-to-end project completion are all essential competencies for this role..

Join our children’s book team and spark the imaginations of young readers. You will work closely with authors and illustrators to create stories that inspire, educate, and entertain our audience.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with authors and illustrators to develop manuscripts for children’s books.
Edit manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
Ensure that manuscripts are age-appropriate and engaging for young readers.
Provide feedback to authors and illustrators on plot, character development, and story structure.
Manage the production process from manuscript to final publication.
Collaborate with designers, marketers, and publicists to ensure that books are marketed effectively.
