Checklist for authors before the book release

Manuscript Editing

Ensure that your manuscript has undergone thorough editing, including developmental editing to refine the overall structure and content, as well as copy editing to polish grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Conduct a final proofreading pass or hire a professional proofreader to catch any remaining errors or typos before the book goes to print.

Book Cover Design

Collaborate with a professional book cover designer or create an eye-catching cover that aligns with your book’s genre, target audience, and overall theme. The cover should be visually appealing and effectively convey the essence of your book.

Interior Layout and Design

Pay attention to the interior layout and design of your book. Ensure that the formatting, font selection, and chapter headings are consistent and visually pleasing. Consider hiring a professional typesetter or formatting service for a polished result.

Obtain an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) for your book and consider registering your copyright to protect your intellectual property rights.

Metadata and Book Description

Craft an engaging and compelling book description that effectively captures the essence of your book and entices readers. Optimize the metadata, including keywords and categories, to improve discoverability in online marketplaces.

Author Bio and Author Photo

Prepare a concise and compelling author bio that highlights your writing credentials, relevant experiences, and any awards or accolades. Include a professional author photo to personalize your book.

Determine whether you will publish your book in print format, e-book format, or both. Ensure that your manuscript is properly formatted for the chosen publishing formats, adhering to the specific requirements of the publishing platforms or printing services.

Develop a marketing plan to create buzz and generate interest in your book. Consider strategies such as author website creation, social media engagement, book launch events, blog tours, and outreach to influencers or book reviewers to maximize exposure and reach your target audience.

Advance Reader Copies (ARCs)

If feasible, distribute advance reader copies to reviewers, influencers, or potential endorsers to generate early reviews and create pre-release buzz.
