Team Keemiya: The book details Advay’s journey from his early life in a remote village to becoming a fearless Army officer. What was the most challenging part of narrating this transformation?
Yogesh Nair: The most challenging part of narrating Advay’s transformation was capturing the complexity of his growth while making it relatable. Transitioning from humble village life to the disciplined world of the Army involves not just external changes but significant internal shifts as well. I wanted to convey the nuances of his experiences—the fears, doubts, and triumphs—without oversimplifying them.
Balancing the depiction of his struggles with the persistence he develops is crucial. I aimed to show how each phase of his life, from the village to the army, shaped his identity, emphasizing that his journey was not just about becoming a soldier but about discovering his purpose and strength. It required a careful blend of detail and emotion to ensure readers could connect with Advay’s evolution on a personal level.

Yogesh Nair: Friendship and camaraderie are indeed central themes in Advay’s journey, reflecting the deep connections formed in challenging circumstances. In my own life, especially during my college days and time in the Army, I experienced firsthand how these bonds can be a source of strength and fortitude. The shared trials, laughter, and moments of vulnerability create an unbreakable bond among those who serve together. I wanted to convey how these friendships shape individuals, providing support during tough times and celebrating victories together.
Each character in Advay’s story represents different aspects of camaraderie—loyalty, sacrifice, and the ability to uplift one another. Through these relationships, I aimed to highlight the importance of having a support system and how it helps one navigate both personal and collective challenges. Ultimately, these themes serve as a reminder that we are stronger together, a lesson that resonates beyond the military.

Team Keemiya: The book highlights courage, bravery, and sacrifice. How does writing about these themes help you convey the true essence of being a soldier to your readers?
Yogesh Nair: Writing about courage, bravery, and sacrifice allows me to convey the true essence of being a soldier by illustrating the multifaceted nature of military service. These themes highlight not just the physical acts of heroism but also the emotional and psychological resilience required in the face of adversity.
By exploring moments of bravery—both big and small—I aim to show that courage isn’t just about grand gestures; it’s often found in everyday decisions, the willingness to stand by comrades, and the resolve to confront fears. Sacrifice is also central to the soldier’s experience, and through Advay’s journey, I wanted to portray how soldiers often give up personal comforts and make difficult choices for the greater good.

Team Keemiya: What key message do you hope readers take away from Advay’s story, and how do you want it to resonate with people outside the military, especially the younger generation?
Yogesh Nair: I hope readers take away the message that courage and resilience are universal qualities that extend beyond the military. Advay’s journey illustrates that facing challenges, embracing one’s identity, and supporting one another are vital aspects of life, whether in uniform or not.

I aimed to incorporate real-life values such as heroism and sacrifice by drawing from genuine experiences, ensuring that the emotions and challenges faced by the characters resonated with readers.
To achieve this, I focused on specific, relatable scenarios that highlight the essence of military life without getting lost in the technical details. I used character development to explore complex emotions, allowing readers to connect with Advay and his comrades on a personal level.
