Amanpreet Singh, aka Aman, is a creative content creator and ghostwriter from India who explores ego, consciousness, and the inner world with curiosity and depth. A restaurateur turned freelance writer, he feels grounded in mindfulness, yoga, cooking, music, and sport. Once on antidepressants for five years, he now uses writing as a path to healing, clarity, and connection.

Team Keemiya: What moved you to write your personal story, and what made you feel ready to share it publicly?

Amanpreet Singh: It was a vent. Thoughts piled up, pent up emotions bursting out to be heard and felt. I wanted to be able to observe and recognize what my mind and body were going through. Being able to witness that process helped me write both stories.

What made me share it publicly is Myndstories, a platform where human stories thrive. Primarily Smitha, the editor-in-chief, who took the pain of going through it as many as three times. Twice she made me make changes, to the extent of re-writing one of them. If I am the heart in my words, she is the soul in my pieces.

Team Keemiya: While writing your essay, did you discover or understand something new about your experience, your relationships, or yourself?

Amanpreet Singh: Yes. I learned that not everything is a wound that can be mended or cured. Time doesn’t heal, but expression during that time creates space for inner contradictions to dissolve, even if the chaos remains. That is what we call acceptance, maybe. I learned to forgive by realizing there was nothing to forgive.

As they say, writing is therapeutic and cathartic, and I could not agree more. One realization that truly has legs is the more we know people personally and the more we love them, the more we start knowing them beneath those layers. That truth could be as bitter as a raw onion, and that is okay. I am also discovering self-awareness. No matter how painful it can be, it is a boon.

Time doesn’t heal, but expression during that time creates space for inner contradictions to dissolve, even if the chaos remains.

Team Keemiya: Sharing deeply personal experiences can be difficult. What was the most challenging part of putting your story into words?

Amanpreet Singh: To put my vulnerability out there with honesty. To talk about my relationships in a way where I can be judged. I am not sure I will be able to share my pieces with the ones involved in my story, fearing I will be tagged as someone with a victim mindset.

Like I am just playing the blame game, like I am an emotional fool or an impostor. It is incredibly challenging when you know the reader who knows you, or the ones involved, may not see you the way they used to before reading your story.

Team Keemiya: If a reader who has gone through something similar picks up this book, what would you hope they feel or take away from your story?

Amanpreet Singh: That every human is sailing on the same leaky boat. We are in this together, and they don’t have to struggle alone. Not every battle has to be won. Some of them, the ones that make up our lives, simply have to be fought until our final breath.

Everyone is capable of finding their expression. Silence is good, but not when someone starts playing with our integrity. So whatever that calling is, whether it is writing, running, playing an instrument, sports, public speaking, gardening, any hobby, passion, purpose, just explore and pursue that one thing that makes you feel content or peaceful until the curtains draw.

Team Keemiya: As a first-time writer, what did the experience of contributing to this anthology mean to you personally?

Amanpreet Singh: Deep sigh. Thank you cannot be enough. It is more than a relief. It feels like a baggage put down from my head which I was never supposed to carry in the first place. I am an author now, and my words are shared with some prolific writers.

The Myndstories community, the writing unit, and Smitha all mean a lot to me now. More than just happiness, it made me feel content. It is such a satisfying thing to hold in my hand, my contribution, my love, my part for the world dealing with mental and emotional challenges.

Team Keemiya: How did writing your story affect your relationship with the memory or experience you wrote about?

Amanpreet Singh: I don’t know what complete healing is, or whether it is always possible, but weaving my experience into words has brought a sense of peace, forgiveness, and acceptance. It has created space within that allows me to hold and manage relationships better.

I am beginning to realize that my calm can be my choice. I no longer feel like I am carrying a tremendous burden of emotional conflict all the time. A lot of that weight has eased, not completely gone, but lighter than before.

Team Keemiya: One word that describes your story

Amanpreet Singh: Listen!

Team Keemiya: A book or writer that inspires you.

Amanpreet Singh: That is always the last book I read, which was ‘As long as the lemon trees grow’ by Zoulfa Katouh.

Team Keemiya: What writing this essay taught you?

Amanpreet Singh: The more our vulnerability is out there, the more the reader feels connected. The more it resonates, the more it inspires both the reader and the writer.

This conversation is part of the ongoing series featuring contributors to Our Stories Are Us, a literary anthology exploring the depth and complexity of human relationships.
